The Pensive Warrior is a place of ideas and experiences focused on the way of both the pen and sword and the strengths these tools represent. “The pen is mightier than the sword” is a common phrase we all know, but what do the pen and sword really represent? What does the metaphor mean? Why are both the pen and sword equally important, despite the mighty nature of the pen? Read more to find out!
The Pen is a metaphor for the power of words; of using one’s voice to share ideas and shape the course of events. The Pen is certainly mightier than the sword as it is the pen which determines how history is viewed.
The Sword is a metaphor for physical force; for fighting to defend oneself and others when the Pen has failed. The Pen is indeed mightier than the Sword, but sometimes the Pen has no effect.
The Pen and the Sword
